Algorand operates a layer-1 blockchain using a Pure Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism, offering fast settlement, low transaction costs, and post-quantum cryptographic security. Companies and organizations use it to move money, tokenize real-world assets such as bonds and real estate, verify data, and deliver humanitarian aid payments. Developers build on it using AlgoKit, a toolset for creating blockchain applications. Participants can also stake Algo or run nodes to help secure the network and earn rewards.
